I began working with Compost Montréal in November 2012. I have long been fascinated with our society’s conception of waste, especially upon reading Cradle to Cradle, the green design ‘bible’, written by an American architect and a German chemist. Properly decomposing our organic waste, and recycling the technical nutrients that we use to make things, is essential to a sustainable society.
I am also interested in enterprise as a means of transforming society. Compost Montreal is a private enterprise, and has received no government or charitable support since beginning. This is a testament to the power of enterprise and community engagement to create alternative, sustainable services and systems, though there is no doubt government support is welcome and needed.
